Two films probing Native
American culture will be showcased along with a panel discussion on Saturday,
March 21 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm in RIC’s Clarke Science Center, Room
125. The discussion will follow the films and will be led by RIC faculty
including Vincent Bohlinger, Elijah Edelman, Pierre Morenon and Lawrence Wilson.
Black Indians: An American Story (2000) brings to light the
cultural and racial fusion of Native and African Americans – what brought them
together, drove them apart and challenges them today. Two Spirits (2009) examines the time when many Native American cultures held places of
honor for people of integrated genders, and explores the lives of Native
two-spirit people today.
The Native American
Film Festival is open to the public free of charge.
