Take Two Oranges and Call Me in the Morning: Medicinal Plant Use by Capuchin Monkeys (Cebus capucinus)—Wednesday,
April 22, 12:30-2:00pm. Capuchin monkeys are known to vigorously rub
pungent and physically stimulating substances over their bodies, many of
which are used by humans to treat a variety of skin maladies. In this
talk, Mary Baker (Anthropology) presents field experiments that
demonstrate the cues capuchins use to identify rubbing substances and
explores why the monkeys engage in this quite odd behavior.
